Psalm 18:33 — “He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.”

God never wastes the climb. Every valley, every hardship, every hidden season, every battle, and every painful step is part of His preparation process. David did not merely say God helped him survive low places—he declared that God “setteth” him upon high places. This speaks of God intentionally positioning His children in places of victory, maturity, perspective, and deeper fellowship with Him. High places are not always comfortable places, but they are places where you can see differently. The higher God brings you spiritually, the clearer eternity becomes and the smaller earthly distractions appear. God desires to lift His people above fear, carnality, bitterness, and defeat into a life that walks closely with Him.

Many believers remain spiritually stuck because they resist the difficult climbs God uses to mature them. But growth always requires upward movement. God calls His children to rise above fleshly thinking, worldly priorities, shallow worship, and unstable emotions. The Lord often allows pressure because pressure reveals what must grow. Mountains strengthen what valleys expose. The climb may feel exhausting, but God is developing endurance, dependence, wisdom, and spiritual discernment within you. The higher God brings you, the more you realize your need for Him. Spiritual maturity is not becoming more independent from God—it is becoming more dependent upon Him every day.

Things look different from higher ground. In the valley, obstacles appear overwhelming. Fear feels larger. Problems seem impossible. But when God lifts you spiritually, your perspective changes. What once controlled your emotions begins losing its grip because you start seeing life through God’s perspective instead of your own fears. You begin understanding that temporary trials cannot compare to eternal glory. You realize that many things you once worried about were far smaller than they appeared. The enemy fights hard to keep believers spiritually low because low places often produce discouragement, confusion, and spiritual blindness. But worship, prayer, surrender, and obedience lift the soul into higher places where faith sees beyond the immediate struggle.

Throughout Scripture, mountains were often places where people met with God. Moses met God on the mountain. Elijah heard God’s voice on the mountain. Jesus was transfigured on a mountain. High places represent closeness, revelation, and communion with God. The greatest reward of the climb is not the view—it is the nearness of God discovered along the way. Many people want victory without surrender, blessing without obedience, and spiritual power without daily fellowship. But high places are reached through dependence upon Him. Sometimes God removes distractions by leading us through lonely climbs so we can hear His voice more clearly. The climb may isolate you from certain things, but it draws you closer to Him.

An eagle builds its nest in high places far above danger on rocky cliffs where storms cannot easily destroy it. The height provides safety, perspective, and protection from many threats below.

Likewise, God desires to lift His people spiritually above the constant noise, fear, and confusion of this world. A believer living closely with God sees differently, responds differently, and walks differently because they are dwelling spiritually in higher places with Him.

The climb you are facing today is not meaningless. God is preparing your footing because He intends to bring you higher. Every prayer, every surrender, every act of obedience, and every difficult season is shaping your spiritual stability. Do not fear the mountain. The God who strengthens your feet also appoints your high places. Trust His process. One day you will realize that the painful climb was actually leading you closer to Him all along.

Father, lift my heart above fear, discouragement, carnality, and distraction. Help me embrace the climbs You use to strengthen my faith. Give me spiritual vision to see life from Your perspective and not merely through earthly emotions. Draw me closer to You in every season and establish my feet securely in the high places You have prepared for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Spend time today asking God to reveal any area where you have become spiritually comfortable or stagnant. Ask Him to help you grow higher in faith, worship, obedience, and surrender. Instead of resisting the climb, thank Him for using it to bring you closer to Himself.
