BEATS FROM YOUR PASTOR’S HEART’S

WHEN YOU ARE TOO WEARY TO KEEP GOING

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31

WHEN WAITING HAS DRAINED YOUR STRENGTH

Yesterday we learned to wait on the Lord. But waiting itself can become exhausting. It is one thing to trust God for a day; it is another to keep trusting when the answer has not come, circumstances have not changed, and you have prayed the same prayer so many times you hardly know what else to say. There is a weariness that sleep cannot fix. Your body may be rested while your soul is exhausted. You become tired of thinking about it, carrying it, wondering when something will change, and trying to remain strong for everyone around you. Isaiah speaks directly to that weary heart: “They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.” God never promised that you would never become weary; He promised that weariness does not have to have the final word. Your weariness may have reached its limit, but God’s strength has not.

God never asked you to have enough strength. One of our greatest mistakes is believing we are somehow supposed to be strong enough for everything life brings. We are not. Isaiah says, Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall” (Isaiah 40:30). Even the strongest eventually discover the limits of human strength. There are burdens too heavy for you, battles too great for you, valleys too deep for you, and seasons too long for you. Sometimes God allows you to discover your limitations—not to destroy you, but to deliver you from depending upon yourself. As long as you keep saying, “I can handle this,” you will keep drawing from your limited supply. But something changes when you finally say, “Lord, I cannot do this anymore without You.” That is not defeat. That is dependence. And dependence upon God is where spiritual strength begins. God may allow you to reach the end of your strength so you can discover that you have not reached the end of his.

GOD DOES NOT JUST RESTORE YOUR STRENGTH—HE EXCHANGES IT

Isaiah says those who wait upon the Lord shall “renew their strength.” There is a beautiful picture here of exchanging what you have for what He has. You bring your weakness; He gives strength. You bring fear; He gives courage. You bring confusion; He gives wisdom. You bring exhaustion; He gives grace. You bring empty hands; He fills them with Himself. The Christian life was never meant to be lived by gritting your teeth and trying harder. Jesus did not save you and then tell you to finish the journey in your own strength. Paul discovered this when Christ told him, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Sometimes the most spiritual prayer you can pray is simply, Jesus, i need you.” The secret of strength is not finding more of yourself—it is exchanging your weakness for more of him.

STOP PRETENDING YOU ARE NOT TIRED

Some people are exhausted because they have been strong for everybody else for too long. You encourage everyone, pray for everyone, listen to everyone, and carry burdens nobody knows you are carrying. Someone asks how you are doing, and almost automatically you answer, “I’m fine.” But God knows. He sees the tears you never shed in front of anyone else. He hears the questions you are afraid to say aloud. He knows how tired your heart has become. You do not have to pretend with Him. Tell Him, “Father, I am tired. I don’t know how much longer I can carry this. I don’t know what to do next. I need Your strength.” God is not intimidated by your weakness. Your weakness may become the very place where you experience His strength most personally. You do not have to hide your weakness from the one who already knows exactly where you need his strength.

STOP FIGHTING THE WIND

Isaiah says, “They shall mount up with wings as eagles.” An eagle does not rise by defeating every current of air; it uses the rising air beneath its wings to gain altitude. Think about that. What appears to resist can sometimes become what lifts. Perhaps you have been asking God to stop every contrary wind in your life: “Lord, remove this. Change this. Make this easier.” Sometimes He does. But sometimes God does something greater—He teaches you how to rise above what He does not remove. The trial drives you deeper into prayer. The disappointment loosens your grip on this world. Weakness makes Christ more precious. Uncertainty teaches trust. Loneliness teaches you His presence. What you thought would destroy you becomes something God uses to take you deeper with Him. Sometimes God calms the wind; sometimes He uses the wind to teach you how to soar.

SOMETIMES GOD WILL LET YOU SOAR

There will be wonderful seasons when God answers dramatically. The prayer is answered. The door opens. The burden lifts. The breakthrough comes. Suddenly you feel as though you could soar. Thank God for those moments. Isaiah promised, “They shall mount up with wings as eagles.” Enjoy those mountaintop seasons, testify of God’s faithfulness, and never forget Who lifted you. But remember: you will not always soar, and soaring is not the only evidence that God is strengthening you. Do not measure God’s faithfulness only by the days when you are flying high.

SOMETIMES GOD WILL GIVE YOU STRENGTH TO RUN

There will also be seasons when God gives unusual strength for unusual responsibilities. You look at everything before you and wonder, “How can I possibly do all of this?” Yet somehow God carries you through. Later you look back and realize, “That was not me. That was grace.” Isaiah says, “They shall run, and not be weary.” There are seasons when God may not remove the assignment; He simply supplies supernatural strength to fulfill it. But Isaiah does not end with soaring, and he does not even end with running. He ends with something much less dramatic—and perhaps much more important. Sometimes grace does not lighten the assignment; It strengthens the person carrying it.

SOMETIMES THE VICTORY IS THAT YOU KEPT WALKING

“They shall walk, and not faint.” There will be days when you do not feel like an eagle. There will be days when you cannot run. There may be days when simply putting one foot in front of the other requires every ounce of faith you possess. Do not despise those days. Sometimes walking is worship. Sometimes walking is warfare. Sometimes walking is victory. You prayed again though the answer had not come. You went to church when you felt empty. You opened your Bible when you felt nothing. You worshipped while hurting. You forgave again. You trusted again. You got up again. You took another step. There was no dramatic breakthrough, no emotional experience, and no mountain suddenly moved. You simply did not quit. Heaven may call that a greater victory than you realize. Not every miracle looks like a mountain moving; sometimes the miracle is that you are still walking toward Jesus.

YOU ONLY NEED STRENGTH FOR THE NEXT STEP

We want God to give us enough strength today for everything we may face tomorrow, but God usually supplies strength the way He gave Israel manna—one day at a time. You do not need tomorrow’s strength today. You do not need enough grace for next month. You do not need to know how you will make it through the entire valley. You need grace for the next step. When tomorrow arrives, fresh grace will be waiting there. God has never asked you to carry tomorrow with today’s strength. Jesus said, “Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof” (Matthew 6:34). Stop staring at how far you still have to go. Look at Jesus—and take the next step. God does not give you all the strength for tomorrow today, because he intends to meet you there Himself.

MAYBE YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK

You may feel weak because you are measuring strength incorrectly. You think strength means never crying, struggling, becoming discouraged, asking questions, or feeling tired. But perhaps biblical strength looks different. Perhaps strength is crying—and still praying; hurting—and still worshipping; questioning—and still trusting; tired—and still serving; disappointed—and still believing; knocked down—and getting back up. Maybe the evidence that God has been strengthening you is not that the battle disappeared but that the battle did not destroy you. Look at what you have already walked through. You are still here. Still praying. Still believing. Still reaching for Jesus. That is not self-sufficiency. That is grace. Strength is not always standing without trembling; Sometimes it is trembling while still standing on the promises of god.

DO NOT QUIT IN THE MIDDLE OF WHAT GOD IS DOING

Maybe today you are weary because you have carried something longer than you expected. You thought God would have answered by now. You thought circumstances would be different. You thought the valley would have ended. But hear His promise again: “They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.” Your strength may be almost gone, but His is not. Your resources may be depleted, but His are not. You may have reached your limit, but God has not reached His. Bring Him what little strength you have left. Bring Him your tired heart, unanswered questions, and trembling faith. Then make the exchange: “Lord, I give You my weakness. Give me Your strength.” And then—take another step. Do not quit in a chapter where God may still be writing the miracle.

WARFARE PRAYER

Father, I am tired of trying to be strong in myself. You know the burdens I carry, the battles nobody sees, and the places where my heart has become weary. Today I stop pretending my strength is enough. It is not. I need You. I bring You my weakness and ask for Your strength. I bring You my weariness and ask for fresh grace. When the enemy tells me to quit, remind me that You have brought me too far to abandon me now. If You allow me to soar, I will praise You. If You call me to run, sustain me. And if all I can do today is walk, give me grace for the next step. I will not quit. I will not turn back. I will wait upon You until You renew my strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

When you have nothing left to hold onto, you can still rest in the hand that has never let go of you.

DAILY CHALLENGE

Ask yourself one question today: Where am i most tired of trying to be strong? Name it. Bring it honestly to God. Then pray, “Lord, i do not need enough strength for the whole journey today. i only need your strength for my next step.” then get up and take it. If you cannot run—walk. if all you can do is take one more step—take it with Jesus. You do not have to finish the whole journey today—you only have to take the next step with the one who already knows the way. Sometimes the greatest miracle is that you kept walking.
