What God is doing in our church is nothing short of miraculous. He is taking faithful, devoted Christians—many of whom have walked with Jesus for years but were never taught these deep truths—and awakening them to a fresh understanding of what it truly means to be The Church Alive.

This is not just another message series. It is a Spirit-led movement—a divine shift. We are learning that the Church is not just a place we go, but a Body we belong to. We are being called to function, not just to fill a seat. To minister, not just to observe. To carry His heart into our homes, our communities, and beyond.

God is breathing life into His people. He’s reviving purpose, restoring identity, and calling each of us to walk in unity, power, and love. And best of all—this is just the beginning.

“SERVING LIKE THE SERVANT KING”

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”  — Mark 10:45

Jesus, the King of glory, stooped low to wash dusty feet, feed the hungry, heal the sick, and ultimately give His life so we could live. True greatness in the Kingdom of God is never measured by title or status, but by willingness to lay down our preferences and meet the needs of others. As members of His Body, we follow the same “upside-down” trajectory: the highest honor comes through the humblest service.

In John 13:1–17, on the night of His betrayal, Jesus girded Himself with a towel and knelt before His disciples to wash their feet—an act reserved for the lowliest servant. Peter recoiled at first; he could not conceive of his Master performing such a menial task. But Jesus explained, “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14). Through this, He taught that true leadership is sacrificial service, and the pathway to honor in His Kingdom is paved with humility.

Back in the ‘late 70’s and ‘80s, during an especially busy Sunday morning, the nursery—now dedicated to Ruth Jarrard, David and Danny’s mom—was a whirlwind of toys, spilled juice, and shredded coloring pages. As stray blocks were gathered and sticky fingerprints wiped from tables, her presence still filled the room.

Though she never drove, Ruth arrived each service—always brought by someone who knew how vital she was. She cradled our tiniest ones in her gentle arms, day after day, no matter the challenges waiting at home. When the room finally settled into quiet order, those who cared for it felt her spirit in every corner.

Ruth’s lifelong dedication reminds us that faithfulness isn’t measured by grand gestures but by the quiet, consistent love poured out in unseen places. Every act of humble service in this nursery carries forward her legacy of devotion to the Lord and His Body.  Thank David for the sweet contribution to our Church.

  1. Survey the “backstage” of your church—hallways, kitchen, classrooms, storage rooms.
  2. Choose one “less glamorous” task this week:
    1. Setting up/taking down chairs or tables
    1. Washing dishes after a church wide event
    1. Organizing the supply closet or hospitality area
    1. Running errands or restocking coffee and snacks
  3. Volunteer joyfully, as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23), knowing He values your obedience more than your comfort.
  4. What holds you back from serving in hidden or behind-the-scenes roles?
  5. When was the last time you felt overlooked, and how might that inform your empathy toward others?
  6. How can you invite Christ’s humility to guide your attitude before, during, and after serving?

This week, serve your chosen task with a spirit of worship—pray Psalm 100:2 over each action: “Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.” As you fold, stack, or wipe, offer each moment back to Jesus and remember: in serving “the least,” you serve Christ Himself (Matthew 25:40).

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, You laid aside Your crown to bend low and wash our feet. Give me Your servant’s heart today. Teach me to esteem others above myself, to find joy in hidden tasks, and to serve without seeking applause. May every act of service draw me closer to You and build up Your Body. In Your name I pray, Amen.
