Beats From Your Pastor’s Heart
SPEAK KIND & CALM WORDS
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” – Ephesians 4:29
“Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how you ought to answer every man.” – Colossians 4:6
In our busy lives, our words have the power to either build bridges or create barriers. Each conversation is an opportunity to reflect God’s love. When we speak kindly and calmly, our words become a balm that brings peace, heals wounds, and strengthens relationships. The Bible calls us to use our speech to edify and encourage, letting our words minister grace to everyone we encounter.
Think about the moments when someone’s kind word brightened your day or when a calm, thoughtful conversation helped soothe a difficult situation. Those moments are not coincidences—they are the tangible expressions of God’s love working through us. By choosing to speak with kindness and calm, we not only honor God’s command but also actively build strong bonds within our families, communities, and workplaces.
Practical Steps:
- Pause Before Speaking:
Take a deep breath and reflect on your words. Ask God for wisdom to choose words that are gentle and uplifting. - Listen Actively:
Often, the most profound expressions of kindness come from truly listening. Let others know they are heard and valued. - Speak Life:
Use your words to encourage and edify. Whether it’s offering a sincere compliment, a word of prayer, or simply a gentle smile, let your speech be a source of grace. - Reflect Daily:
End your day by reflecting on your interactions. Consider what went well and how you might continue to speak in ways that foster peace and build strong, loving relationships.
Prayer: “Lord, help me to be a vessel of Your love through my words. Grant me the wisdom to speak with kindness and the courage to let my speech reflect Your grace. May every word I utter build peace, mend broken hearts, and strengthen the bonds of love around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
May this devotion remind you that every word you speak carries the power to transform lives. Let’s commit to speaking kind and calm words that bring peace and build strong bonds, reflecting the heart of our Savior in all we do.
