SERVING OTHERS

Matthew 20:28,  “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

In John 13, we witness an extraordinary moment when Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, a task reserved for the lowest servants.

Imagine the Lord of all creation—kneeling down, taking a towel, and washing the dirt from the feet of His followers.

In doing this, Jesus modeled true greatness through humility.

Though He was their Master, He showed that serving others is the highest calling in God’s kingdom.

His life was not about seeking honor or glory but about giving and sacrificing for others.

This act of love and service was a vivid illustration of how we, as His disciples, are called to live—putting others first, even when it costs us our pride or comfort.

In our culture, greatness is often measured by power, influence, and how many people serve us.

But in the kingdom of God, greatness is defined by how we serve others.

True leadership comes not from being exalted but from humbling ourselves and meeting the needs of those around us.

As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His heart of servanthood by looking for ways to serve others, even in the mundane or unnoticed moments.

Whether it’s helping a neighbor, being kind to a stranger, or simply offering a listening ear, each act of service mirrors the love and humility that Jesus demonstrated.

We are never more like Christ than when we serve.

Picture a garden—lush, green, and full of life.

For it to grow, it requires careful tending.

Water must be provided, weeds must be removed, and attention must be given to each plant.

When we serve others, we are like a gardener, helping to nourish and care for the people around us.

Just as a garden flourishes under careful attention, people grow and flourish when we offer them love, care, and acts of service.

And as we serve, we too grow—becoming more like Christ in humility and love.

Our hearts are changed, and we begin to see the beauty in putting others before ourselves.

PRAYER
Lord, give me a servant’s heart. Help me to follow Your example of humble service and seek out ways to serve others today. Let my actions reflect Your love and humility, that I may be a blessing to those around me. May I always remember that true greatness comes from laying down my life for others, just as You did. Amen.

ASSIGNMENT
Find one practical way to serve someone today.

It doesn’t need to be something grand—it could be as simple as offering a helping hand, speaking an encouraging word, or simply being present and listening to someone who needs it.

Let your service be a reflection of Christ’s love, and seek to grow in humility and compassion as you serve.
